In 2021 I received a micro-commission from Open Eye Gallery to spend on a research and development project connected to the environment. I proposed the ridiculous idea of making collages using litter, and then had to find a way to actually do it when I was one of the people selected. That was one side of the project – the other saw me connect with online litter picking groups on Facebook and invite people to send me photos and reflect on why they litter pick. Dozens of people contributed, sending me more than 450 images and I went on to create a digital zine trying to make sense of all this content. One of my litter picker collages was also selected for the Manchester Open exhibition.
