This is very much an ongoing project. Over the past eight years, major regeneration schemes have been taking place in towns and cities across the north of England in an effort to tackle what the government says are “failing” housing markets. Tens of thousands of mainly terraced homes are being compulsory purchased and cleared to make way for new build houses and flats. Many residents accept the programmes but others have fought for their homes or for fairer compensation deals through public inquiries and the courts. The Housing Market Renewal scheme, the focus of much of my work, is now being wound up by the coalition government but the nightmare continues for many residents. Photofilms featuring some of the campaigners can be seen here, and all my work on regeneration since 2006 can be seen on my Streetfighters microsite.
